Wishing You the Happiest of Father’s Days
“When my father didn’t have my hand, he had my back,” said cartoonist and country music singer Linda Poindexter.
The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Washington State as a way for the late Sonora Smart Dodd to celebrate her father, a Civil war veteran who raised six children on his own. It became a national holiday in 1972 when President Nixon signed legislation designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.
However, some others cite that the first Father’s Day was started as a one-time event to commemorate the lives lost in a mine explosion in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Whatever the true origins of the day, it has evolved to be a time to honor the people who have stepped into a fatherly role to help raise people. However you might celebrate – whether it’s with a barbecue or a fun trip to dad’s favorite place – a gift might be in order (either for yourself or your dad!). Esquire says these are the top gifts for this year:
A wireless charging station and sanitizer to disinfect dad’s keys and cellphone.
A deluxe Carhart lunch cooler bag for the dad who wants to save money and eat healthy now that he might be back to the office.
Self-sanitizing water bottle to keep the water dad likes to drink throughout the day free of bacteria.
No matter the gift you choose for yourself or others, we hope you celebrate every moment of this special day.
Have a very happy Father’s Day!
