May 2022 be your best year yet!

Poet Juansen Dizon once said, “I hope you realize that every day is a fresh start for you. That every sunrise is a new chapter in your life waiting to be written.”

While circumstances beyond our control took the wheel over the nearly past two years, 2022 might be the year where we can be more in control of what we write into the chapters of this year.

And, while we have control over what we do with this upcoming year, we could always use a little luck. Consider starting off the new year by incorporating some traditions from around the world:

·         12 green grapes. With 12 seconds remaining until the New Year, people in Spain eat 12 green grapes for good luck. Eat them all before the clock strikes midnight, however, because it’s considered bad luck if you don’t. 

·         12 round fruits. In Filipino culture, 12 round fruits, one for each month of the upcoming year, are served for prosperity and wealth. The round shape symbolizes coins and while any round fruit is acceptable, apples, oranges and melons are commonly served.

·         Eat vasilopita. In Greece, some welcome the new year by eating a sweet yeast bread called vasilopita at midnight. The bread is baked with a coin in it, and whoever gets the slice with the coin will have a year of good fortune.

·         Eat soba noodles. In Japan, just before midnight, soba noodles are eaten to symbolize the crossing from one year to the next. These noodles are easily cut, which symbolizes letting go of the regrets of 2021 and starting fresh in 2022.
